Where to make a complaint against UK College or University?

This is one of the common questions of a large number of international students in UK now. Some students are not happy with their institute’s (specially college) service and quality of teaching. One of the most common complaint is ”Student get visa refusal and asking money back from college then either they don’t back money or deduct 2/3 times admin charge from the tuition fees”.

Today I want to inform all the international students how to make a complaint against your college or university regarding their service and product.

Some key points for refund policy:

  • Always read properly College or University terms & conditions.
  • Before you make any payment make sure you understand their refund policy
  • Keep all receipts or similar documents for future reference
  • If you don’t found any refund policy with your payment slip do not pay money
  • Without any refund policy you can’t make any complaint
  • You may also seek local police and council.

What You Need To Know For Making any Formal Complaint: Please visit UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) for the details of complaint procedure.

Before you make any formal or informal complaint always share with someone you trust and ask for advice or you can take advice from solicitors.

    Dear Sir/Madam;

I, Azhar Ud Din student of HND at Finance and Management Business School, would like to launch a complaint against such a college who’s making fraud with students on the name of Education.

I would appreciate in anticipation, if UKBA take action against a college as well as allow me to take admission in other college.

Since I came to United Kingdom as a Tier 4 Student in Finance and Management Business School to study HND in Business Management and the duration of a course was 2 and 1/2 years, and this course was commenced in June 2010, I was a regular student of my college with attendance of 89% above the mark. My studies was going smoothly, and after I got holidays (term break) I received a letter from a college stating that the college premises is moved from 1 Victoria Square Birmingham, West Midlands B1 1BD to Saltley Campus, 80 Anthony Road ,Saltley, BirminghamB8 3AA

After holidays I had been to college in new premises then I found a new faces, it came to know me that the management has changed and I told them I am student of this college showed them a letter I received, they ask me to wait after sometime they said, “you are not allowed to sit in classes”, I asked why? They said the deposit you have not paid yet, I got shocked because after such a long time which is exactly on 2 years they demanding a deposit which is all nonsense.

I got admission through a college consultant in Pakistan and before I got visa paid a deposit to them and they paid to college that’s why I got CAS letter from a college to apply for a VISA, and previous management had never asked or raised this issue if I had not paid so it is a very clear proof.

I had submitted my all assignments in time I have proofs as well and continuously tried my best to clarify the situation
that the deposit fees was already paid and the previous management had never raise this issue as you are raising this issue. when no one listening I wrote a letter to college Principle named Mr. Scott and after a month principle acknowledged and allowed me to attend the classes but overall my one moth was wasted and the Principle Scott asked Ms. Jyne Goddard (Head of Course) to arrange extra classes to follow up the lectures, he also advised Jyne (head of course) to look after my case with accounts department.

In connection to the deposit issue was resolved and they said, “We have updated in the system that the deposit paid”

2ndly, as soon as my deposit issue was resolved they start asking me to pay the installment of tuition fees I said to them I will pay but firstly to assure me that I am being given extra classes which as per Mr Scott to arrange for but it has not been done yet .

Meanwhile my case was refer to Kay Kullar who was the College Manager on that time, she realized and admitted whatsoever happened it was really a college management fault.

She Kay Kullar( college manager) promised me to help in regards to the matter of missed classes and the fees, she said you pay the fees and this is my responsibility to arrange missed classes, I paid £500 cash I have receipt as well but it was a dilemma on this stage for me who is the one can fulfill the commitment and to understand what is EDUCATION, I being a student can understand the importance of time and education, on that time I was just in deep thoughts the people in the college are claiming to be an educated to run this system are in my sight they are illiterate and abusing education as well.

Furthermore, Kay Kullar (college manager) became so busy like a prime minister I booked an appointment to see her, I met her in the office and remind her a promised she made with me all of sudden she changed her face and said, “No I didn’t and denied straightaway”, she said I cannot remember your case yes I only can recognize your face. I started with my whole case again to help her in recalling the memory but she didn’t. I said her that I paid a fees to you of £500 and receipt of payment showed her. But she didn’t, then I realized she deceived me to collect a fees and she planned to pretend.

When I asked her to arrange classes for me she refused to arrange, I was feeling very helpless since May 2012 I was fighting for a justice but everyone in the college behave likes animals. They are ruining my career which I will not allow to everyone from anywhere and I came here to study and I paid a full fees so far and the college people are not giving me progress when I request them to at least give me my progression report of two years, for which I had submitted assignments, they said the progression report will be sent you out in post in three days but after three days again I went to the college and inquired about my progress, I have not received yet in post they said you have to pay more to get progress which is ridiculous.

Because of this entire stressful problem I am unable to look after my studies and feeling like nowhere, I lost my time, money and my studies.

This is not only happened to me, there are many other students are suffering in this situation, I got all evidences to fight my case until justice, therefore I WOULD HUMBLY REQUEST TO UKBA AND ALL STAKEHOLDERS WHO HAVE GIVEN THEM A LICENSE AND ACCREDITATIONS FOR GROOMING STUDENTS FUTURE not for destroying so this is a time I can request to UKBA and the Stakeholder please support me and all other students who are victim of this college this is an criminal offence as well to mislead or destroy intentionally STUDENTS’ future.

I am forwarding the copy of this to all stakeholders of this college and also to education system runners.

I hope my request and appeal will listen very carefully and be given a justice either progress of my precious two years from the awarding body through my college or special permission to get admission in othe college.

I am looking forward to hearing from the stakeholder for a justice.

Hi. My daughter attended Grimsby Institute last year and had to leave because she was sexually abused in the college by a 25 yr old man with learning difficulties, the police were involved and it ended up with the man staying at college with a 24/7 mentor and my daughter leaving because she didn’t ever want to see him again ( OBVIOUSLY ). My daughter feels let down and is having Counselling. She has contacted the University on numerous occasions because she passed her Level 1 Graphic Design and everyone else received their certificates before Christmas and she hasn’t received hers, nobody has rung her back after she has left countless messages. Please can someone inform us as to who we can complain to that his higher than the Principal as we feel she has let us down in a big way.
    Yours hopefully. Miss S. Marshall.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a foreigner and studying in a business college which is a level 3 college in London. I chose the intensive program which the school offered me 27 “classroom hours” per week that the school confirmed in the offer letter. However, I paid for it and came to London and realized that there were 9 classroom hours less in the first term, moreover, this term I have only got 14 classroom hours. I asked the school, the school said they have the right to change the program’s modules, classroom hours, and they also said they are according to the London law and the classroom hours are including the home study hours. I checked the terms and conditions, there is a term that mentioned about the school have the right to have some “minor” changes in the program.
Do you think I can complain to the high education organization?? And, do you think I can ask them to refund the missing hours??
I have really suffered from dealing with the school that also causes me losing interest to study in this school.
I look forward to hearing advice from you. Thank you!

You may count it as a minor changes. As making complaint for this type of problem doesn’t last long. So better to find a alternative solution with your college or change the sponsor (college). Thanks.

Paid tuition fee in Advance to London college of Accountancy. Things did not work out as planned, requested for a refund and the school asked me to provide a visa refusal letter when I never even apply for one. I contacted UKBA who requested that the school contact them to verify that I never applied for one but the school has refused to. Their refund policy allow a refund less processing fee when a student has no applied for a VISA. Please i need help this has been going on since 2005.

I have applied for CIMA course from Finance and Business Training college Birmingham campus. College is Highly trusted and I have applied for July 2014 intact. I paid 5400 GBP to the college as a full payment of the course and applied for visa in May 2014. But, unfortunately I got refusal on 12/06/2014. So, I have requested to the college about the refund of my fees of 5400 GBP and according their policy they asked me to wait for 45 working days. But, it’s more than 3 months gone and I asked to the college about my refund every time and they always reply me the same that it will take some time for them to make a decision. I can not understand that how much time will they need to refund me my money?

I even made complain to the complaints department of the college but they did not even bother to contact me back. Please take action against it and please help me in getting my money back.

Please reply me as soon as possible.

But every time we are told we will be starting they keep changing the dates, when I ring them up they keep promising me that they are still sorting out new campus. Which they have done, but still no start date. I have try to get into other college’s but are all full up. St Patrick’s need to be investigating. As they are playing with people futures. My course was HND Hospitality Management.
